If you are interested in taking a Las Vegas bus tour to the Grand Canyon, then I have the trip for you. It combines ground, air and water, and by the time you\’ve done it can truly say you\’ve experienced the Grand Canyon.

The Rims

Before we review this trip, lets talk logistics. Vegas travelers can go to the West Rim or the South Rim. The former is closer to the Strip (120 miles away) while the later is a 277-mile road trip.

In regards to this bus tour, it\’s a deluxe West Rim trip, and it comes with nearly everything. The trip departs once a day in the morning. En route, it goes past Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.

As for the Dam, you\’ll get about 15-minute photo stop on the Arizona side of the bypass bridge. This is sufficient for pictures. Those who want more time at the Dam are encouraged to book a separate day trip.

Helicopter Ride

When the bus reaches Grand Canyon West, its time to exit and let the fun begin. First up is the helicopter ride, which is extra special because you can only fly to the bottom and land here at the West Rim.

The descent takes about 10 minutes and it\’s one of the most thrilling things you can do. On the bottom, you\’ll deplane and then make your way to the boat dock, which is attached to the banks of the Colorado River.

The boat ride is approximately 15 minutes and it\’s plenty of time to get a good feel for what it\’s like to be on the very river that is solely responsible for creating the Canyon. On the boat I recommend enjoying the view because it\’s quite surreal looking up at the Canyon\’s cliffs while drifting down this famed waterway.

At the Bottom

Time on the bottom averages about 30 to 40 minutes, and it\’s plenty to fully grasp how extraordinary it is 4,000 feet below the edge. The chopper ride back to the top is just as break taking as the descent and it includes passing the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

Indeed, you can include the Skywalk into this package. I say you do it if you plan on walking the Glass Bridge, as it\’s much cheaper in the long run. The Skywalk is now one of Las Vegas\’ most popular outdoor attractions because it lets you walk 70 feet past the edge!

There\’s plenty to see and do at the West Rim. I recommend hopping the free shuttle and checking out Guano Point, which offers and excellent view of the Canyon and the River. By the way, Guano is home to a defunct mine. Old structures still dot the area, giving it a lure of \”Old West\” mystery.

Conclusion

The Las Vegas bus tour to the Grand Canyon is an incredible trip. But it really gets interesting when you add in the helicopter and boat ride. I do want to point out that this is one trip that\’s extremely popular and most prone to selling out. Thus it\’s always a good idea to book it at least a week ahead of time.
