I get asked a lot by different people “Just what is there to do in Houston?” It always surprises me, because it is a big city and people just assume there is not much going on because it is not as well known as New York or Los Angeles. I have to say the nightlife is pretty good here and you can always find something to do.

Sometimes, even if you may not intend for it to happen, you may just stumble across something extra exciting, like, say, a catfight.

Now I am sure the ladies reading this just think I am some kind of chauvinist pervert, but I think you would be hard-pressed to find someone of either sex who would not be willing to stick around a club or bar to watch a couple of ladies go at it. You never quite now when something like this is going to break out. With that in mind, you have to keep an eye out for certain circumstances to arise and then you may see things get heated.

One thing you can pretty much count on at any dance club is a couple of girls getting into over an old boyfriend. You will see one girl with a group of her friends talking about another girl who is hanging all over some guy. Fingers will start pointing, shouting and cursing are bound to come next and then, all of a sudden, you have two people rolling around on the floor pulling each other’s hair.

Back in the old days, that was probably about all you would see. In today’s world, the ladies seem a little more adept at fighting and you will easily see some punches and kicks thrown at each other. Some of these girls look pretty tough and can take down a lot of guys, let alone the girls they are fighting.

I have seen more than a few have to be carried out by two or three bouncers, kicking and screaming the whole way. It doesn’t just happen at the dance clubs either, although it seems to happen there more often because, well, there are more girls there. It can easily happen at any of the local bars as well.

Here you are more likely to see some kind of catfight break out in the parking lot. Then it turns into something you would see in the movies. Everyone makes a big circle around the fighters and cheers them on until the police show up to break it up. It makes for an entertaining evening and I won a few bucks betting on a large blonde one night.

The next time someone asks me what is there to do in Houston, I may recommend a few places where a good catfight might break out. I would love to see their reaction when they meet up with me again and describe what they saw. That may be the last time they say nothing exciting ever happens in this town!
