There are plenty of things to do in Houston this week. You can pretty much look all over town and find stuff to do, but if you are like me, you may not have a lot extra cash at the end of the week to do something. That’s one of the reasons I try to scope out places that have the best happy hour spots, so I know I am going to get the most for my money.

Okay, so not all the best dating prospects are usually around for happy hour. It tends to be right after the work day ends and maybe you don’t get the same type of crowd you will get at the bar or club later on in the day. Sometimes that’s okay though. There are days where I just don’t feel like having to put on the dating face and try to find someone to pair up with. Some days I just want some cheap drinks and fun company for a while and then head home.

It may not sound like the ideal night for everyone, but that’s okay. Sometimes there are other people just like me there and I have found some people to hook up with a few times over happy hour drinks. Whether they are just being cheap like me or like to go to these places I don’t always know, but it doesn’t really matter most of the time.

Since I am a beer drinker, happy hour usually means I can get the beer I like for a dollar or two less than usual. If you like to drink some of the less-than-premium beers, you can usually get them pretty cheap too. Most places will also have specials on other mixed drinks and maybe a special drink for the night that you can try that you have never had before.

Sometimes I get really lucky with happy hour and the place will put out some free snacks or appetizers to go along with the drink specials. I know I sound like a real cheapskate now, but hey, sometimes you have to make the best of it and that may be all I get for dinner that night, so go with me on this one. I can survive on some chicken wings or mini egg rolls no problem.

I try to find places that have happy hour for a few hours instead of a short timeframe. It seems to make it more worthwhile than having to try to rush over to the place to get a drink in before the prices change. Most places usually have it for about three hours; some may even go to four or five, which is a real jackpot.
