No one ever figures that they will actually have something like this happen to them. You certainly won\’t see this in any Houston nightclub marketing that I am aware of, that\’s for sure. I don\’t think it\’s something a lot of people brag about that has happened to them. What am I talking about? Probably one of the strangest nights of my life, and the only one that involves pepper spray.

It started out as many other Friday nights do for me and my friends. We hit some of our usual hangouts, had some drinks and were having a good time. We even met a couple nice young ladies who spent some time with us. It seemed like it was going to be a pretty good night.

That was until we decided to go out and try the sushi place around the corner from where we were. I like sushi and so do my buddies. We\’ve never had any kind of a problem with it before and didn\’t figure this time would be any different. Boy were we wrong.

We ordered as we usually do and the two girls who were with us also ordered a couple of things. The chef also gave us a sample of something he had just made. Now, none of us speak Japanese, so we had no idea what was actually in it, but we all ate it anyway. It tasted pretty good and then we had the rest of our meal. We all enjoyed everything.

We walked out of the restaurant feeling full and began to make our way across the park to another bar we wanted to try. We had reached kind of shaded area with not much lighting. It was then that I started to hear something strange.

I looked back and the noise seemed to be coming from one of my buddies. He was making kind of a wheezing noise and when we finally hit a street lamp, we could see that his face was swollen and broken out in hives. He started reaching towards one of the girls who was with us and she freaked out when she saw him. She screamed, sprayed him with pepper spray and took off.

Turns out my buddy is allergic to shellfish. There must have been something in the treat the chef gave us. He was just trying to get some help from the girl, but he looked like Frankenstein when he did. We got him to the emergency room where they gave him a shot and treated his eyes for the pepper spray.

It was an honest mistake all around and luckily we are an odd group of friends and have a good laugh about now. You certainly won\’t see this story turn up in any Houston nightclub marketing, but it\’s something you may want to keep in mind when you are out and about on the town and meet some new people.
