The Labor Day holiday weekend is coming up and now\’s the time to take that Grand Canyon helicopter tour from Las Vegas and South Rim while there are still seats available.

Las Vegas

There are two kinds of flights from Vegas and they are air and landing. Both go over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the Canyon. Air-only at this point will head back to Vegas while \”landers\” will go to the top or bottom.

My favorite air-only trip is the deluxe version that leaves from the Las Vegas Strip. It includes a stretch-limousine transfer to and from the hotel and uses the superior EcoStar 130. My top lander is the one that goes to the bottom for a Champagne picnic.

Please note that you can only fly to the bottom of the National Park and land from Las Vegas. Such flights are banned at the South Rim. Bearing this in mind, you might want to consider upgrading the bottom-landing Vegas flight with a Colorado River boat ride.

South Rim

There are two very exciting South Rim air tours from which to choose. One is 30-minutes in length and goes from the South Rim to the North Rim and back via the famous Dragoon Corridor. The other is a 50-minute flight that does that, too, as well as everything up to the eastern Park border.

I personally prefer the longer tour because after it\’s all said and done you\’ll have seen upwards of 75 percent of the official National Park. That\’s quite an achievement when you consider you\’ve done it in less than 60 minutes.

I\’m also a huge fan of the helicopter and Jeep 4×4 package. This unique combination bundles a 30-minute helicopter ride with a 2.5-hour Jeep tour. Personally, I think it\’s a very efficient package because you get both a ground view and a bird\’s eye view of the Park.

EcoStar 130

I talked about this helicopter earlier and it deserves further explanation. The EC 130 is awesome because it\’s 25 percent larger than other helicopters. Because of its size, it can be outfitted with stadium-style seats and an impressive 180-degree wraparound windshield. It\’s also incredibly quiet and delivers one of the smoothest rides I\’ve experienced in a long time.

Labor Day weekend, which is on Monday, September 1, is in actuality the last 3-day summer holiday of the year. As such, it\’s going to be busy and that\’s why I urge you guys to book your tour over the Internet and in advance. Follow both these steps and you\’ll get the best flight at the lowest possible price. It really is that simple.
