Best Grand Canyon Airplane Tours For Labor Day 2015

Labor Day holiday weekend is coming up and that means time to book a Grand Canyon airplane tour from Las Vegas and South Rim as flights are famous for selling out during this time.

Las Vegas

From Vegas, travelers can take tours to the West Rim and the South Rim. Flight time is 30 minutes to the West and 60 minutes to the South, which is remarkable because driving to the South takes nearly 5.5 hours!

There are two kinds of air tours from which to choose: Air and landing. All go over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the Canyon. Air-only tours turn back once over the Canyon, while landing tours go to the top.

Air-only tours are your cheapest option. But frankly I prefer landing tours as you get to see and do more. In particular, I like the flight from Vegas that lands at the top of the West Rim, comes with a helicopter ride to the bottom and a boat ride down the Colorado River.

There\’s even a plane tour that includes VIP passes to the incredible Grand Canyon Skywalk, which is a glass bridge that lets you walk some 70 feet past the edge until you are standing some 4,000 feet over the bottom. Talk about an incredible adventure!

South Rim

At this rim, take the 45-minute tour. It departs from Grand Canyon National Park Airport in Tusayan, AZ, and heads to the National Park\’s western boundary before crossing over the Canyon and flying over the isolated North Rim. Then it\’s back across the Canyon to the South Rim. In all, you\’ll have seen up to 75 percent of the Park.

The planes used on these flights can accommodate up to 19 people. Two FAA-certified pilots man each aircraft. Further, all planes are optimized for sightseeing and feature oversized windows and cabins and wings attached to the top so you get an unobstructed view of the Canyon below.

Benefits

Airplane tours follow the same flight path as helicopters, except they are cheaper, accommodate more people and fly at a lower altitude. If, however, you want a more personal, exclusive tour, consider a helicopter ride but understand that you\’ll pay upward of 50 percent more for the experience.

The Labor Day weekend is notorious for being busy, which means you need to book your airplane tour now and over the Internet. I don\’t recommend waiting, especially until you arrive at your destination or within 72 hours of flight time. Do this and you risk not getting seats. And most certainly you will pay more.

Conclusion

I hope this article about Grand Canyon airplane tours during the Labor Day weekend holiday proved useful. It\’s important to pick which rim you want to see, especially if you are starting from Las Vegas as you can do both (there are no flights to the West Rim from the South). And once you decide, please book it online and in advance. It\’s going to get busy up here and I want to make sure you get your seats before they are sold out.
