Grand Canyon Sightseeing Flights for the Thanksgiving Holiday
With the Thanksgiving holiday weekend coming up, now\’s the time to RSVP that Grand Canyon sightseeing flight tour (helicopter and airplane) from Las Vegas, NV, or South Rim, AZ.
Flights will all be running on a regular schedule throughout the holiday. Departures start at 7 a. M. And conclude around 4 p. M. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times of the year for Canyon tours so book early.
I personally recommend buying your sightseeing flight at least a couple weeks prior to the departure date or right after you book your hotel room. Avoid purchasing your tour within 48 hours as the price will be more expensive and/or the tour will be sold out.
I also recommend that you book your tour online. That\’s where the deals are and I\’ve seen many that are up to 35 percent off. However, make sure you complete your transaction online in order to qualify for the special Internet promotional rate.
Las Vegas
There are two kinds of helicopter tours that depart from Vegas: all-air and landing tours. Both fly over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the National Park. Air-only will turn back for Vegas while landing tours will go to the top or bottom.
I prefer the landing tours as you get to see and do more and they are generally the better value. My favorite is the one that lets you enjoy a Champagne picnic at the bottom. Those who want to upgrade this particular tour can add a Colorado River boat ride and a VIP ticket to the Skywalk.
The Skywalk, also known as the Glass Bridge, is an all-glass structure that lets you walk 70 feet over the Rim until you are standing some 4,000 feet over the bottom. The views are spectacular, especially those of Eagle Point.
Vegas airplane tours are also available in all-air or landing. Like helicopter tours, they follow the same flight path over the Lake and the Dam. My personal favorite is the one that includes a helicopter ride to the bottom and a Colorado River boat ride.
South Rim
South Rim helicopter tours are not allowed to fly below the Rim and land. As such, you can pick from a 30-minute and 50-minute flight. The shorter one goes from the South Rim to the North Rim and back via the Dragoon Corridor. The longer one does this, too, as well as everything up to the Park\’s eastern boundary.
The South Rim airplane follows the same flight path as the 50-minute helicopter, except it does it at a much higher altitude. Further, plane tours can accommodate up to 19 adult passengers whereas helicopters max out at six passengers per flight.
Conclusion
I hope this article on Grand Canyon helicopter tours during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend proved helpful. From Vegas, I recommend a helicopter tour that lands at the bottom for a Champagne picnic. As for plane, I like the one that you can extend with a helicopter ride to the base. My pick for South Rim is the 50-minute helicopter ride – do it and you\’ll have see up to 75 percent of the National Park in under 1 hour!
