Denny Hamlin won the hard-fought Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 at Pocono on June 6, 2010, but his victory took the backseat to yet another NASCAR melee on the racetrack. 20-year-old Joey Logano, Joe Gibbs Racings’ up-and-coming prodigy, hardly ever starts tiffs with other drivers – even when he’s in the right – but enough was enough at Pocono when Kevin Harvick crashed him for the second time this season.

Logano, known for his placidity on the track (a staunch contrast to some of his NASCAR counterparts, including Harvick,) was running in the top five at Pocono along Brand Cialis with JGR teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch (who ended up first and second, respectively) when he was spun out on Lap 199 of 200 by Kevin Harvick, sending his car spinning backwards. Though he didn’t hit the wall, Logano ended with his car facing the wrong direction and was sent back several spots, ending the day in a disappointing 13th place.

The racing action was plenty for NASCAR fans to get riled up about during the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500, but things escalated even more following the race. Fans with NASCAR tickets to the Pocono race got a little more action than they paid for in pit road following the final lap, as Logano parked his No. 20 stock car next to Harvick’s vehicle and exited his car in a rage to have some words with the driver.

Tom Logano, Joey’s father, also joined in the melee, following his son through the sea of Harvick’s crew members while the two drivers exchanged words. Tom Logano’s interference onto the track caught criticism from the NASCAR realm following the incident, leading some to urge NASCAR to strip the elder Logano of his hard card to get onto the track during races (this is his second offense for a similar incident).

No decision has yet been made by NASCAR officials to take away Tom Logano’s credentials, but it looks like the younger Logano can fend for himself either way. In a post-race interview concerning his crash at Pocono, Logano told ESPN, “It’s probably not [Harvick’s] fault. His wife wears the fire suit in the family and tells him what to Silagra do, so it’s probably not his fault” (Harvick’s wife DeLana wears a matching fire suit as her husband during races even though most the other racing wives wear regular clothes.) Logano continued, “It is what it is. It’s just ridiculous. I don’t know what I’ve ever done to piss him off, but he is apparently…stupid.”

Firing back a defense, Harvick – currently the leader on the driver standings board – said, “I got into him there going into [Turn] 3 and he just races with not giving people any respect and not much room. So, we just wound up getting together. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes.”

Pocono did not result favorably for Joey Logano, but the young driver still has plenty of races left this season to look forward to. Other than the Harvick crash, Logano ran arguably his best race at Pocono and will continue tweaking his racing strategy for upcoming races, which will feature June appearances at Michigan (June 13), Sonoma (June 20) and Loudon (June 27).
