The Pitchfork Music Festival is unique among the many festivals that are scheduled around the country this summer. While the larger ones-festivals like Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza, for example-are sure to have major, mainstream national acts as headliners, the Pitchfork Music Festival is a place where the smaller, indie fare can rule.

Of course, the headliners are better known than many of the acts on the festival’s lineup, which are often up-and-comers that have been creating buzz in the blogosphere. But 2010’s headliners should get music fans all over the country fired up and ready to check out this amazing festival.

Here’s our rundown on the top headlining acts to check out this year.
Friday:
Friday is a pretty short day, with less than half the number of bands that are playing the rest of the weekend. Still, this is a good day to get in a checkout if you’re a big fan of Modest Mouse. The band formed in 1993, though they seemed to achieve a surge in popularity over the past Kamagra Gold decade, and especially in Cialis Professional 2004, when they released Good News for People Who Love Bad News. Older fans will stand by 2000’s The Moon and Antarctica or 1997’s The Lonesome Crowded West as their triumphs.

Broken Social Scene is also a must-see. The collective of musicians seems to wind through a litany of the hippest indie-rock bands of the ’00s, and their meandering music was praised by critics on albums like 2002’s You Forgot it in People. Though not of the same stature as Modest Mouse, they’re just as talented and well-worth checking out.

Saturday:
The headliner for this day is an easy pick: LCD Soundsystem. Quite honestly, most of the people who will be attending the festival will be planning on experiencing producer and disco-floor shaker James Murphy live. He’s known for making danceable music with sarcastic, witty lyrics. This year he released This is Happening, his third album as LCD Soundsystem, and it’s already earned a lot of talk for the single “Drunk Girls.” Guaranteed fun.

Panda Bear is going to be another big act, though not as big as Soundsystem. Panda Bear is Noah Lennox of Animal Collective, a band that is known for trippy, psychedelic and folksy art-rock. Likewise, Panda Bear’s music is slow, atmospheric, weird but beautiful, and you can easily get lost in your head listening to the free-floating, sonic clouds he makes.

Sunday:
One word: Pavement. This is the headliner that everyone has been looking forward to. Band reunions only come along so often, and when they do, you only get a spate of shows before the members all go their own merry ways again. If you were a fan of this troupe of pasty, clever indie-rockers back in the ’90s, then it’s obligatory that you check them out this year.
