Arguably, Wicked has been one of the most popular musicals of the last several years. Since it opened in 2003, it has been captivating audiences around the world. The impact of the musical was perhaps best felt by two stars who originated the two biggest roles in the show: Elphaba and Glinda. Those roles were originated by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, respectively. Wicked’s mark on popular culture doesn’t end with its stars. Rapper Kanye West has apparently taken a liking to one of the musical’s most famous tunes, “Popular.” According to Broadway.com, West is using samples from Chenoweth’s vocals on the track to create a brand new tune for his new album. The song is expected to be heard on West’s upcoming album, Good Ass Job.

Wicked has the perfect combination of a fantastic plot, jaw-dropping score and impressive staging. The musical is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire. Stephen Schwartz, who is known for shows like Godspell and Pippin, brought Wicked to the stage. Wicked tells the backstory of The Wizard of Oz.
