The Last 16 Of The 2010 World Cup – Who’s Going To Progress?
Starting on 11 June 2010, the 2010 World Cup has been nothing short of fantastic. Unexpected results, beautiful football and some stunning goals, it’s been the football fan’s perfect tournament.
Now into the last 16 round, two of the matches have already been played, with Uruguay beating Korea Republic 2-1, whilst Ghana beat USA also by a score line of 2-1, albeit in a bit more of a tense way (the match was 1-1 from kick off to 90 minutes, with Ghana scoring soon into extra time), but there are 6 more matches to be played before 29 June.
If you like a bet, live betting may not be the best route for you in this tournament (some of the odds have been fantastic, but the scores haven’t been entirely as most would have predicted, with a lot of unexpected results and last minute goals) and for a more secure bet, place your money on the winners of the 6 remaining matches, with the following being the outcomes that most would expect.
1. Netherlands vs. Slovakia – both teams have played exceptionally well in the tournament so far, with Slovakia managing a 3-2 win over Italy, a match that was not only unexpected, but upsetting for the Italians, as it cemented their position of being unable to progress past the group stages.
It’s going to be a tough match, but Netherlands won all 3 of their group matches, so it would be a wise choice to pick them.
2. Brazil vs. Chile – Brazil may not have had the best start to the tournament they would have liked, as they haven’t shown much of the Brazilian magic that everyone was hoping for. However, whilst Chile progressed through with 2 wins and 1 loss in the group stage, both of their wins were not particularly convincing, being by only 1 goal margins, so Brazil should be your safe bet here.
3. Argentina vs. Mexico – Argentina have been as dominating as most were expecting in the tournament and although Mexico haven’t been quite as overpowering with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss in the group stages, they have been playing some great football.
A tough call, but Argentina should just about do it.
4. England vs. Germany – arguably the most anticipated match of the tournament No prescription cialis so far, England and Germany’s rivalry spans decades. England haven’t been on top form lately, with Wayne Rooney looking particularly tired, but most teams step up to the challenge when facing a rival, so there’s a good chance England may come away scoring a few more goals than Germany here.
5. Paraguay vs. Japan – a bit of a well-matched pairing here, as whilst Paraguay finished first in their group, Japan actually won more games and received more points.
A particularly difficult one to say, but Japan might just clinch it if they are on form.
6. Spain vs. Portugal – two of the most evenly matched teams in the whole tournament, Spain started out as favourites for the event, but Portugal’s massive 7-0 win over Korea DPR, as well as being able to hold Brazil to a 0-0 draw will have taken their spirit and positivity to the next lwvel.
Therefore, whilst Spain’s David Villa is on top form, a Portugal win would be a good bet to make.
