The Low Down Of The 2010 World Cup Group Stages

One of the most surprising and exciting World Cups to date, there has been everything any football fan could ever want in a World Cup so far – not ideal for those wanting to make a bet in play, though, as there have been a number of unexpected victories and losses.

Now into the last 16 stage, the following information takes a brief look at how the group stages panned out.

Group A – the group that traditionally features the host country, unfortunately South Africa didn’t do enough to secure a place in the last 16, with Uruguay and Mexico taking the first and second places.

One of the major talking points of the tournament so far happened in Group A, when France not only finished last and were knocked out of the competition, but had a lot of internal problems, leading to Nicolas Anelka leaving the squad mid way through the group stage.

Group B – consisting of Greece, Korea Republic, Nigeria and one of the tournament favourites, Argentina, this group was arguably one of the easiest to predict. Argentina finished first and Nigeria last, with Korea Republic and Greece battling it out for second place – something that Korea Republic managed to succeed at.

Group C – England’s group, the champions of 1966 were up against Algeria, Slovenia and USA and although they didn’t put in any startling performances, they managed to progress through to the last 16 with 2 draws and 1 win.

Although USA topped the group, they were in third place with Slovenia in second and England in first, until the very last minute USA’s match against Algeria, when Landon Donovan scored in injury time, taking them first and putting in England in second and Slovenia in third.

Group D – expected to be a particularly tough group to call, with the exception of Germany, the expectations Viagra Jelly turned out to be true.

Germany did manage to finish top as was expected (albeit after a surprise loss to Serbia), but the remaining three teams – Australia, Ghana and Serbia – were separated by only 1 point and their goal difference, with Ghana just doing enough to progress in second place.

Group E – made up of Cameroon, Denmark, Japan and the Netherlands, the latter team were only one of two in the whole group stages to win all 3 of their games (with the other team being Argentina).

Japan came second in Group E, winning 2 and losing 1, whilst Denmark were third with 1 win and 2 losses and Cameroon finished last, losing all of their 3 matches.

Group F – the group whose winner should have been easy to predict, Group F saw one of the most surprising aspects of the World Cup, as Italy crashed out in last place.

Paraguay took the top spot here with 5 points, whilst Slovakia cialis price just beat Australia to second place with 4 points, only 1 more than Australia.

Group G – when the groups were announced, critics were calling Group G one of the toughest in the entire competition.

Consisting of Brazil, Portugal, Cote d’Ivoire and Korea DPR, the first two teams finished first and second respectively. Cote d’Ivoire made a great effort but fell a point short and Korea DPR, who whilst managed to only concede 2 goals from Brazil, crashed out of the competition after losing 7-0 to Portugal and 3-0 to Cote d’Ivoire.

Group H – the group with the tournament favourites in, Spain did as was expected and finished top, whilst Chile and Switzerland battled it out for second place. Chile did enough to get through, pushing Switzerland into third place, with Honduras finishing fourth.
