Malta may be a little island you’ve never heard of but you would be surprised at how many people out there are of Maltese descent. From actors to poets to painters, Malta has produced people in a number of different fields. Malta has contributed a large number of well-known celebrities.

In the arts world you have Justine and Jason Bateman. The brother and sister actor are both of Maltese descent. As is Terry Camilleri, comic Shaun Micallef and singer Melissas Tkautz.

Singer Bryan Adams may be well known for being born in Canada, but what may not be as well publicized is the fact that his grandmother is of Maltese descent. The singer of such world famous songs such as Everything I Do I Do It For You and Straight From the Heart proudly waves the flag of Malta. He performed there in 2007 in what was one of the biggest concerts Malta has ever seen.

Likewise Kamagra Britney Spears has some Maltese blood in her. The star of such songs such as Oops I Did It Again and Hit Me Baby One More time has a great-great-grandfather who was born in Malta. Apparently Edward Portelli was born in Malta around 1873. One can only wonder what Edward would make of all the shenanigans that Britney gets up to.

George Preca was a Maltese Roman Catholic priest who established the Society of Christian Doctrine. He was born in Malta in 1880 and died there in 1962. He is known as the Second Apostle of Malta and he was canonized in 2007. Preca was famous for his ability to live a life devoted to charity and helping others.

Mario Fenech is a rugby league player of Maltese descent. He was known as the Maltese Falcon. He used to play for South Sydney. He was a player of tremendous skill and courage.

Edward De Bono is the world famous lateral thinker. He was born in Malta in 1933. He has degrees from Oxford, Cambridge, the Melbourne University of Technology and the University of Dundee. He was a Rhodes Scholar. From an early age, De Bono was a thinker of a different level to other people. In 1969, he established the Cognitive Research Trust.

De Bono wrote 82 books which have been translated into over 40 languages. His thinking has been used by governments, corporate clients, charities and individuals all in an effort to help them make them think better. He is flown in all over the world to speak to people. Whatever the subject, De Bono has come up with interesting ideas of how to solve problems.

From penalty shootouts in soccer matches to resolving the Middle East conflict, De Bono has put forth his ideas of how they can be solved. Not everyone is a fan of De Bono’s way of thinking which is what you could expect. But still he has contributed a lot to thought. He is one of the most famous people ever to emerge from Malta.
