If you are thinking about going on a yoga retreat, there are few things that you might want to think about before you book your retreat to make sure that you have the best possible experience.

What is the level of yoga being offered? Some yoga retreats cater to advanced practitioners while others are more suited to beginners, and yet others accommodate all levels. If you are just getting started in yoga going on a yoga retreat that is focused on advanced yoga most likely won’t be a great experience and vice-versa, if you are advanced student you might be bored with a beginning level program. Some locations are laid back and very secluded while others might be closer to populations centers or cities. Most often, retreat venues are situated in beautiful natural environments close to the ocean, up in the mountains, in a tropical rain forest or near some other interesting location such as Tuscany or the South of France. The more secluded the environment the more you will be able to focus on your practice of yoga. On the other hand combining a retreat with an exciting vacation destination is a great way to go as well!
Finally, do a little research. Once you have decided on a potential yoga retreat, thoroughly check out the group leaders. Look at their website, send them an email or give them a call to ask questions: Do they have experience leading yoga retreats? How long have they been teaching yoga? Does their style of yoga match what you are looking for? Are they any options you need to know about? Is food included? Are classes mandatory or optional? What do you need to bring? Can you speak to any of the past participants? What is their cancellation policy?
These are the key issues you need to consider before booking a Yoga retreat. Remember, yoga retreats are supposed to help you relax and unwind. Taking a little time for considering retreat location, schedule, level of yoga and asking a few questions will go a long way to making sure you have the best possible experience.
