A Natural Way To Relieve Headaches
Are you currently suffering form severe headaches? You are not the only one. If you can believe it, one in six people in the United States suffers from chronic headaches.
As a chiropractor in Seattle, WA, it is my opinion that due weather conditions and the higher probability of seasonal affective disorder the rate is even higher. Chronic migraine headaches were the reason my father, Dr. Darrell Gibson saw a chiropractor for the first time. The effect was so powerful and instantaneous, he became a chiropractor himself.
Chiropractors are experts at determining the root cause of all types of headaches as they review all components of health. These components can be broken down into the physical, chemical/nutritional, and emotional aspects of life.
Due to the many misconceptions about chiropractors and the chiropractic profession, there are far too many people in the world needlessly suffering from headaches. They believe drugs may be the only answer.
These drugs are simply masking the root cause, and in my opinion, depending on drugs to stave off headaches for the rest of my life is not an answer. Every drug has a side effect, and sometimes they are not known until it is too late.
Chiropractic care can reduce and eliminate headaches by reducing pressure on the nervous system, which will allow it to regulate function and homeostasis naturally. As each patient becomes aware and accountable for their well being, headaches can become a thing of the past.
Recent studies have shown that people who undergo a series of chiropractic adjustments and lifestyle changes recommended by the chiropractor reduced the severity and frequency of headaches when compared to sufferers who were only prescribed medications.
These findings show that regular chiropractic care can help the body eliminate headaches, and reduce and eliminate headaches and medications that were once deemed necessary. Once the body is free from nervous system interference, the brain and the rest of the nervous system can function stress free, with no symptoms.
The good news is, not all people are in this drug trap. The American Chiropractic Association estimates that 15% of people with chronic headaches have chosen chiropractic care instead of drugs.
Even with this success, the majority of people continue to see their family medical doctor for headache relief, when they will receive nothing more then a prescription for medication.
Here are 5 misconceptions that are commonly believed about headaches:
1. Over the counter medications will eliminate headaches.
We do not have headaches due to a lack of drugs in our system. Headache medications like tylenol, aspirin, and excedrin, are dangerous at best, and only lead to habitual use.
2. Headache medications are safe.
Headache medications are some of the most dangerous medications over the long term, and can cause irreversible damage to your liver, kidneys, and stomach.
3. Most headaches are cause by stress.
Your body and nervous system’s ability to comprehend physical, chemical, and emotional stresses can cause headaches. However most attribute this to a bad day at work for example, when they are other controllable life factors at play.
4. Headaches will just go away on their own.
It is vital to correct the root cause, source, of the headaches and not just mask the symptoms.
5. Your physician knows how to treat headaches.
Headache physicians simply mask headaches with pharmaceutical drugs, and truly give no long term, reasonable solution for headache relief.
If you are continuing to have headaches, and have been on the pharmaceutical roller-coaster, see a chiropractor. Get their professional opinion, and get the relief you deserve.
