How to Bring Freshly Baked Goodies to Your Loved Ones

Have you ever made the mistake of sending baked goods that you made yourself through the mail? Or have you tried travelling with a box of muffins or cookies stuffed in your suitcase? If you have, you would know by now that it wasn’t only a huge mistake but a real disaster and a waste of money, time and effort. But of course this shouldn’t deter you from sending your freshly baked goodies to your loved ones from time to time, even as you know you would have to go through tremendous efforts to do so. An easier way of doing it however is right there on your computer with access to the Internet. There are online bakeries that will send your order of a gift basket full of brownies, cookies, muffins and cakes to you or your friends and relatives in virtually anyplace in the country. These online bakeries have almost all freshly baked goodies you could imagine and have them delivered to your doorstep. You can even order in advance so you won’t forget to send a tray of chocolate cookies or brownies to your aunt for her birthday or another basket of lemon cranberry biscotti for your secretary. Ordering online is very convenient and saves a lot of time. You don’t have to go to the bakery and spend time there looking for what you want all over the place. It only takes a click of the mouse in the computer to see what the online bakery has to offer.

But if it is absolutely necessary that you bring the freshly baked goodies yourself to your mother’s, there here are some tips to pack them right so they arrive as fresh as the moment they came out of the oven and more importantly in one piece, and not crumbled into a thousand inedible pieces

Bake your brownies as chewy as you can and if possible, make them in one large piece instead of the usual individual small ones. Do not cut the brownies but leave them intact as they came out of the pan. Be careful when you get them out of the pan so they don’t break. Wait for them to cool then wrap the brownies tightly using a plastic wrap. Avoid leaving air trapped inside the bag to prevent spoilage. Finally put the plastic wrapped baked goodies in a Ziplock bag.

For cookies, bake them three to five minutes less than what the recipe says. Wait until they become completely cool before handling them. Wrap each cookie with saran or plastic wrap and then in a single layer, place them inside a Ziplock gab. If you have to put several layers of cookies, place crumpled wax paper in between the layers.

If you’re travelling by plane, place your baked goodies in a can that has an easy open lid so security in the airport can quickly open it and look inside if needed. Place crumpled newspaper or wax paper in between the layers inside the can. This will help keep the brownies and cookies in place and minimize movement that could ruin them. The best way to ensure they arrive intact is to carry them with you whenever possible.
