What Are the Costs of a Hair Transplant Procedure?
What are the costs of having a hair transplant? Well you can look at this from two different angles. You can look at the financial cost of getting a hair transplant – in terms of how much cash you’re going to have to splash to get the transplant you want. This is the first major consideration for most people.
You can also look at it from the point of view of the emotional and physical cost of a bad hair transplant and how much of an impact this can have on your life. Oddly enough these two “costs” are pretty closely related when it comes to the idea of hair restoration surgery.
In this article we’re going to look at both angles for your reading pleasure.
How much will a hair transplant cost you in money terms? All hair surgeons work out their procedures based on the number of hair grafts you’ll need to get the results you want. Each hair graft will have 1 – 4 hairs in it – well it would at least in a modern FUE style transplant. How many grafts you’ll need will depend on how much hair you’ve lost but you can expect to have between 2,000 and 5,000 hair grafts transplanted to cover up your hairloss. It all depends on where you sit on the Norwood scale of hairloss.
Now you can work out the total financial cost as each of these hair grafts will cost anywhere from $5 to $12 each. So with 2,000 grafts x $5 you’re looking at a cool 10 grand at least and more if you need more than the basic 2,000 grafts. Some transplant clinics do offer financing deals but that choice is entirely up to you. Financing cosmetic procedures isn’t something I would encourage though.
Now we can have a look at the emotional “cost” of a hair transplant procedure. Any man or woman who has lost some or all of their hair will tell you it’s a devastasting experience. Nobody has ever been happy to lose their hair so it’s an upsetting experience full stop. That’s your first emotional “cost” right there – the trauma of having your “look” changed through no choice of your own. It can take some people an awfully long time to get used to it. Some never do and try to hide their hairloss under hats and wigs forever.
The next emotional cost is when you wind up having a bad hair transplant – one that leaves you looking worse than you did before the procedure. There are so many great hair restoration surgeons around at the moment (Dr Cole, Dr Bernstein, Dr Umar, Dr Wood) that it means it’s rare to see really bad transplant work these days. Saying that some people do make bad choices but it’s good to know that hair surgeons like the guys I just mentioned can even repair sloppy transplant work.
Last but not least look on the bright side of the whole process – imagine the “bonus” of looking and feeling years younger after having a great transplant that not even your hairdresser will notice!
