Moving and Handling People With the Use of Chair Lifts

When people get old, they usually need canes to help them with their walking. Worst, some of them may even get to be confined to a wheelchair especially if accident happens and fracture their bones. Old people have fragile bones unlike us who are younger and have healthy bones. Especially women who have undergone pregnancies and have lacked calcium intake during their productive years, their bones can easily be affected by osteoporosis, arthritis and bone fractures. This is why if they will be confined to a wheelchair or bed when old, special training on moving and handling people is required for the caregiver to assist them.

It’s a good thing somebody came up with wheel chairs and chair lifts to help people move freely around the house. Almost everyone of us are familiar with wheelchairs because we see them on the hospitals, home for the elderly, on the park and even on the streets where old people still travel with some companions. Chairlifts are also ordinary. However, they are on particular use on homes only. A chairlift is a mobility device that can bring weak, disabled, and sick people to move freely from one place to another. They provide opportunity to people for greater movement. Unlike wheelchairs, they do not have wheels but they are more comfortable than wheelchairs because they look like padded or upholstered chairs and can be reclined.

Chairlifts have many types so they are usually used also in the hospitals or homes where care on moving and handling people is required. They come with manual and electric type. The automatic type is also the same as with the electric chairlift and they can automatically switch to bring the person from one place to another through the rails without the need to stand or walk. They can also be attached to the railing of the stairs. They are powered by batteries and can be controlled by joysticks and very comfortable.

The manual chairlifts, however, although have the same function as with the automatic chairlifts must be lifted by people in order to place them on any point of the house. They are not that comfortable because they are not upholstered freely. However, they can have detachable seat so that people can lift the patient together with his seat and transfer him to other place such as in the comfort room or to other chairs. Chairlifts can fit anyone’s needs because unlike the wheelchair which have only one design and no mobility but its wheels, chairlifts are much like upholstered reclined chair so old or sick people who can barely stand can get off from the chairlift and stand them without any strain.

They are very effective tools for moving and handling people with not so critical conditions. Old or sick people love them more in terms of comfort. They also come in different styles, sizes, colors, functions and characteristics. In fact, they do resemble the normal upholstered chairs, a reclining chair, a sofa, and a chair all in one.
