Sheesh Mahal or The Palace of Mirror is one of the most exciting and must visit attractions of Patiala. This extraordinary structure was built by Maharaja Narinder Singh in the year 1845. He was widely known as one of the greatest patron of art. The palace exhibits a perfect example of European and Mughal architecture.
In order to decorate the palace, almost all possible murals and mirror-work have been used. Sheesh Mahal also houses a wonderful museum. It houses a very interesting collection of antiques and relics that give the visitors an opportunity to insight the life and time of Maharaja of Patiala.
Lachman Jhoola is another not to miss attraction of the city which is a suspension bridge established across the small lake right in front of Sheesh Mahal. The design of the bridge has taken from the world famous Lakshman Jhoola built at Rishikesh. The bridge acts as a linkage between Sheesh Mahal and Banasar Ghar that is also a major public attraction.
The City of Patiala is also famous for its lively and unique style of celebrating festivals. The Patiala Heritage Festival is one of the most exciting and watchful festivals of the city. This festival has been started by the Patiala Heritage Society in the year 2003 and it takes place in the month of February every year. This is one of the great festivals of Patiala as it displays several different aspects of music, arts and sporting culture.
