When you are running you should not be taking a lot of extra equipment with you. The more that you carry on your body the less natural your run will be.
If you are going to be running with a Walkman or an iPod you should make sure that you are not carrying it in an uncomfortable position. If you are constantly worried about it falling out of your grasp or having the headphones fall out of your ears than your stride will be affected.

You may not even realize that your stride is affected by the objects that you are carrying, but it will be if you are worried about the object. Make sure you only take what is necessary when you go outside to start running.
The shoes that you run in are probably the most important piece of equipment you will have on your run. Shoes can seriously affect the way that you run.
