Celebrate Christmas Using Creative Holiday Decorations

Young couples are usually short on two things around Christmas time; money and decorations. They do not have a stored supply from previous years to fall back on (money or decorations) so they must find creative ways to decorate their first apartments or new homes. Here are a few suggestions for creative decorating, most of them incorporate items young people will find readily available.

Over the short span of a young couple’s life, they both have collected quite a variety of CD’s, DVD’s, and bland diskettes, why not create a Christmas tree filled with Metallic beauty. All you need is a few rolls of bright ribbon, and enough metal discs to cover it. String the discs with ribbon and hang on the tree, place a few miniature computers, readily found in the novelty magnet collections in most discount stores and you have a computer themed Christmas decorating scheme that will be unique and super shiny. You can hang a few discs from a small wreath and hang it on your front door. Find an outside rug that has a computer motif, and your all set for the holidays. It is a fun and creative way to reflect your personality and the pictures you take will make wonderful memories of your first Christmas together.

If you are both music majors, you have no end of musical paraphernalia lying around! Create a musical themed Christmas decorating venue from the things you already have, and the purchase of bags of small musical instruments found in the party section of most retail outlets, or even the toy sections. Hang them on your tree, place a rug that has a music theme underneath, and your set. Using a computer you can print off paper that has musical notes for gift wrapping, or even prints of famous musicians to place in round balls that are clear and open up to allow inserting photos. Put on a classic music CD when your guest arrive and they will be filled with the note-worthy feeling of Christmas cheer!
Create a black and white Christmas theme.

It will look quite elegant and can be done with little money. You will need bags of Styrofoam balls and clear ornament balls, cotton balls, black and white glitter, glue, glue gun, bottle of mineral oil and a pitcher of water, and a pack of ornament hangers. Add water to the ornament balls, top off with 1 teaspoon of oil, and add 1 tablespoon of glitter and give a shake. Hang on your tree, and you have created a beautiful moving ornament that will roll and glimmer every time a breeze passes by, or hang them from the center of the ceiling fan, or place in a window for a beautiful affect.

You can cover Styrofoam balls with cotton, add glue and glitter for a puffy white ornament, and glue black glitter or sequins to the Styrofoam for the black ornaments. Place your tree atop a black rug, with a white tree skirt, and you will be ready for a black and white Christmas. Use newspaper to wrap your gifts and tie with a red bow, and you will be black and white and red all over!

Christmas does not have to look like the traditional scenes from your childhood; filled with reds and greens. Use any color scheme you have available and pick up Christmas decorations to match. If you have a collection of girly pink items like pink rugs, and tablecloths, then create a pink Christmas. If your new hubby or partner has a collection of old trains or cars, create a train and car theme Christmas, or even bring out your collections from childhood and create a Santa’s workshop in your home. Put down a red rug, add some pillows and let your old teddy bears hold court with the dolls from your childhood, and you will have created a Victorian themed Christmas tableau. Who knew you could be so creative?

Use your imagination, and creativity and you might be surprised to find you created your own Holiday traditions your first year together.
