Games For Long Transfers
In my experience, just about the only downside of ski transfers from Geneva airport is the fact that sometimes, the journeys can take a while. On occasion, there’s traffic on the roads, but more often it’s just that the particular resort you’re driving to is a longer drive away! A lot of the skiers that use transfers are families who don’t want the stress of having to juggle public transport with small or tired children. There are a few tried-and-true methods of keeping everyone calm and entertained during long ski transfers. Here are a few of my favourites!
Cameras
Buy one of those cheap digital cameras and encourage the children to take photos during your ski transfers. Geneva airport has plenty of planes to snap flying overhead to begin with, and then the mountain scenery can give you hours of pointing out new features. It can be a great way of keeping them occupied during long drives. You can get them excited and enthusiastic about their holiday, and you may even find a few gems of photos in the results!
Card Games
Playing cards can be more fun than you’d think on long ski transfers. Geneva airport has a few places you can get playing cards if you’ve forgotten them. Any number of games could be played, such as Go Fish, Old Maid, or even poker if you’re betting for little airport snacks like skittles or M&M’s. When the ‘pot’ is an actual cup filled with sweets, games can become very high-stake indeed! Another classic card game I’ve seen people enjoy is Uno.
Name That Tune
Some people enjoy bringing along CD’s full of familiar music on their long ski transfers from Geneva airport. Portable CD players work a treat when the rest of the group are still after some peace and quiet. It can be nice to give people a sense of familiarity when they’re traveling off on their skiing holidays, but it can also be good to try your own ‘name the song’ competition. Simply tap out the rhythm or hum a few notes of the song, and see who can recognize it. You could award points to the people who guess the tunes correctly – or points for the most out-of-tune offerings!
Old-Fashioned Reading
Packing a supply of books and comics, whether they’re old favourites or new surprises, can be a great way of keeping everybody happy during ski transfers. Geneva airport has a few books on sale, though it can be a good idea to choose a few that are interesting before you travel so they’re on hand. Plenty of journeys can feel a lot shorter when you’re engrossed in reading a good story. Just watch out for people who feel carsick when they’re reading! Another option is to choose a few audio-books to enjoy together on the journey.
Compass
One interesting way of keeping everyone occupied is by making sure children have a compass in order to tell which direction they’re travelling. It’ll also get them used to using a compass in their upcoming skiing adventures. If you have some paper and pencils or crayons handy, children can be encouraged to make their own map of the journey.
