Halloween Costumes Some Scary Some Cute
Each year brings a new crop of Halloween costumes for kids and adults. New characters are modeled after movie and television characters. The old favorites are always represented among the partygoers and trick or treaters. You will see many little toddlers dressed as pumpkins.
Also, be prepared to encounter Dracula in his sweeping cape and blood dripping from his sharp fangs. Vampira and her like will be out in droves. The popularity of the movies and television shows about vampires will make sure of that.
Little hands will reach out for candy from within the sleeves of Batman and Spiderman. Oh and Superman will be there too. He won’t fly in, but toddle up to the door clutching his pumpkin to be filled with candy. Only wrapped candy is acceptable these days.
One little girls was resplendent in a genie costume her mother made from scratch. She bought a pattern and material in pale silk. The harem pants were pale blue silk with pale pink overlays in chiffon. The top was the same colors with braid trim and tassels across the bottom. She was adorable, and obviously very proud of her costume.
Not all moms are that talented and many little princesses wear their Disney costumes with pride and tiaras atop their curls. Cinderella and the evil stepmother are often seen. The older boys take special delight in posing as Jason or Freddy Krueger and terrifying the little kids. But it’s all in the spirit of the Halloween holiday.
For one improvised costume, put a colorful bandana on a stick. Wear a ragged shirt and jeans and rub some make-up on the cheeks to simulate dirt. Plop one of dad’s old hats on and become a hobo for the night. However, there are few ghosts wearing a sheet with holes cut out for the eyes. Could this be due to a shortage of sheets that are white rather than colored?
Clever adult costumes at parties still include dancing girls, skeletons, priests, nuns and that old favorite, a husband and wife in a two-person horse costume. Cows are still popular, along with cartoon characters such as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too.
You can shop online for fabulous Halloween costumes. Those made for Renaissance Faire wear are beautifully sewn and intended for more than once a year use. At least one woman at every adult party arrives in a skimpy tart outfit. Men cheer and their wives give her dirty looks.
Men in female garb are fun to see. It’s especially amusing to watch them hobble about in high heeled shoes. One man who obviously didn’t want to spend a lot of time or money on his costume, stuffed dollar bills in his shirt pocket and posed as a rich man.
The many costumes, both store-bought and improvised, are fun to see. It’s amazing what a make-up kit can do to turn a child’s face into a cat face or a vampire face with blood dripping down from the corners of the mouth. Smiling or booing, you can do a little of both when viewing the many Halloween costumes on parade under the full moon.
