Ford Mustang

Mustang, not only is it synonymous with supreme power coupled with superb styling, but it’s name and everything the brand represents is a legend in the automobile world.

At the cars debut back on April 17th, 1964, it was Ford’s most successful launch since the Ford model A decades earlier. Although beaten to the showroom floor only by a couple weeks by Plymouth’s Barracuda, the Ford Mustang still helped to pioneer the “pony car” class of automobiles. Pony cars were generally classified as sports car-esque coupes with long hoods and short rear decks. Designed with younger crowd in mind, they were generally more nimble than most cars of the era, and consequently handled better as well.

The Ford Mustang has an impressive legacy that lives on to this day, inspiring countless cars after it including the Toyota Celica, Ford Capri, Chevy Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, and AMC AMX. The Ford Mustang is currently enjoying it’s fifth generation, and stands today as Ford’s third oldest nameplate in production, next to the F-Series Pickup truck line, and the Falcon line of cars. Over the course of these generations the mustang has been enjoyed in various different body styles such as fastback, coupe, hatchback, and convertible, and throughout the years the Mustang has been available in lots of different trim options with many different engine and drive trains as well, some of those include the L, GL, GLX, LX, GT, Turbo GT, SVO (Available from 1984 to 1986), the Cobra (Available from 1979 to 1981, and once again in 1993), and the Cobra R (Only available in 1993).

The Ford Mustang has always been a staple for horse power and performance, and rightfully so. The Ford Mustang has had its roots in racing since stampeding right out of the gate in 1964. Winning many world renowned races as well as awards has helped to immortalize the Ford Mustang in automotive history. Some of the awards the Mustang brand has been bestowed with over the years include: The Tiffany Gold Medal for excellence in American design, which was awarded back in 1965. The Mustang was the first car to ever be honored with such a prestigious award. The Mustang has been featured on the Car and Driver Ten Best list in 1983, 1987, 1988, 2005, and 2006, and it’s won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in both 1974 and 1994. Also, it was runner-up to the Chrysler 300 for the North American Car of the Year award in 2005 and was named Canadian Car of the Year

Today the Mustang is still going strong. It stands for everything it once did, and so much more. It still possesses the versatility and power of its older, less efficient ancestors, but with the economical design of a fuel efficient car and charm of a luxury car rolled into one. Anyone looking for a modern car today that knows it’s heritage and isn’t afraid to show it would be hard pressed to find anything better than a Ford Mustang.
