Finding a Good Roofing Company
Unless you know exactly what you are looking for in a roofing company, you may have a little difficulty figuring out how much it will cost to repair or replace your roof. The differences can be calculated if you do a little research, understand what it is that you need done, what materials you will need and what the labor costs will be.
Because there are different types of roofing procedures and materials that can be used, you may want to check into all the available options before making a solid decision. Some companies will decide to use certain methods that are not as safe or do not last as long as others. The reasons behind this usually stem from the cost of the materials or the labor to put the roof on.
Some contractors will decide to use a certain kind of material because of the type of weather that the location often endures. In dryer climates, such as California and Arizona, the roof will be made of materials that can stand the heat, such as clay tile, while other damper climates will require metal or slate roofs.
The most popular type of roof is made of asphalt shingles. This is also the cheapest, which is probably why it is so common. They do not have to be black. They can, in fact, come in many different colors and can be colored for specific tastes or to match the exterior of the house. Most of the residential companies will use these as their standard type for roofs and they will usually have a certain brand that they like to use because of its durability.
The biggest disadvantage in using these shingles is that they are not very resistant to ice or wind. Because of this the durability of the shingles must be examined first and foremost.
When a company uses asphalt shingles on a standard basis, they will probably have a certain number of years in their warranty that will match the warranty on the shingles. This would reflect in the total price that you will end up paying.
There are a few other types, such as the aforementioned clay and slate tile shingles. Clay and slate are both highly expensive but are incredibly resistant to fire and will not mold. They will both be very heavy and should never be walked on. There should not be a need for them to be walked on. The houses that they are built on will usually be the type that will last for a hundred years or more with the proper care and maintenance.
Whatever roofing material you choose, be sure that you check the installation prices of each, the durability and the quality of the company that will install it. The company that does install it should be researched to make sure they will do the quality work that you want. You should never choose a roofing company based solely on the fact that they had the lowest bid. Find out what they did to lower the costs in comparison to the other companies that bid for the job.
