There are so many things to do on the Island of Corsica you won’t be sorry you vacationed there. No matter what you are interested in you can find something to fit your personality. You can go hiking, biking, fishing, and sailing along with a number of other activities. Corsica can be found 100 miles south of the main land and has a lot of nature for all to see.

There are a number of different accommodations from camp grounds to hotels to bed and breakfasts. It is usually camping that holds the most visitors and it is a great way to take in the beauty of the island. The stars are beautiful at night you can just lay outside of your camper and look at the beautiful Mediterranean skies.

There are two departments in Corsica; Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud. The population census of 2007 had the population count at 281, 000 for both regions. The capital of the region is located in the Corse-du-Sud department and is called Ajaccio. You will find a rich history of over 100 years of turbulent foreign rule that kept Corsica until 1768 when the island was taken over by the French. As such you will find that most people here speak French but there are those in the villages that speak Corsican.

If you love art you can find a lot of artsy stuff to see such as castles, churches and museums such as the ruins of the historical banquets. The beaches here are just beautiful but there are other types of nature to see in Corsica. You can explore the mountain lands as well as the Island’s forests for more nature. If you like to sight see you can catch a ride on the afternoon train to see some of the scenery that is along the train lines. You may be surprised to see the amount of Italian influence you see on your way.

You can find crafters on the streets of the city making their wares right there for you to see. There are over 50 festivals each year and so you will not be short of entertainment. There is Patrimonio holiday which brings artists from all over the world to take part in this celebration of music. In Aleria they have a toga party that honours the history and roots of the village. Then there are the fishing holidays along with the carnivals that are held in the forests along with horse fairs and a number of other holidays that are geared toward the younger population.

You will find crystal clear, deep blue water that would be utterly inviting. It is these waters that bring visitors from all over Europe to come and delve in the diving experience of Corsica. You can go either scuba diving or snorkelling but either will be a lot of fun. The water is mostly warm and so there is no need to venture to the Caribbean when Corsica is right around the corner.
