Getting Into the Details of Painting
When it comes to painting, you should be prepared to spend quite some time when it comes to paint preparation. A masking tape will surely come in handy and you can just purchase this at a hardware store near you and is important in ensuring clean lines and at the same time, keep the windows and doors safe from any paint mark. You should put a tape on the part that does not have to be painted. With the help of it, paint will no longer leak through the line you made.
Heavy pieces of furniture need to be moved towards the centre of the room and the smaller furniture should be taken out of the area. You must also put a cover on the furniture that remained within the area so it can be protected from possible paint splatter which can be inevitable sometimes.
You may opt to cover the floor with the use of a plastic or even a canvas. It would be better to place a plastic cover since it can prevent the seepage of paint better, especially if the paint is knocked over. Though a canvas can absorb paint, it is still possible that the paint can seep through it in greater amounts.
The wall can be prepared for painting by making sure that the holes are properly patched and that the walls have already been cleaned. You should no longer try to paint over the holes found in the wall since this technique will not make it disappear. Doing this can make you dissatisfied since the area will look weird due to the holes which basically have paint over it. If you have a patch kit, you must follow the guidelines indicated and you should allow time for it to dry.
Aside from the said patch kit, you will also need to prepare a plastic tarp or a canvas tarp, a ladder or an extension to be used for high places, wet towels in order to clean up easily, paint brushes, roller pans together with paint rollers and also a straight edge which can be painted. However, you should not be too lax as other things can still be added which you may need as you go through the entire process of painting.
With regard to the types of paint to be used, you may want to consider using primer paint for walls that are quite dark and have undergone patching. By doing this, the flaws are hidden and it would be more cost-efficient since the amount of paint needed for coating will be lessened. If you would like to have darker colour, you will be glad to know that primer paint can also be tinted. As for latex paints, these only have minimal advantages as compared to paints that are oil-based. Latex paints are usually more durable and release less fumes. Cleaning it up is also easy since you can just water to take it off. There is also another kind of paint that is totally appropriate for indoor use.
