Tell Them Who I Am: The True Nature of God

Convinced that the contradiction was not a contradiction after all, I committed myself to uncovering its meaning, but it was so difficult to decipher that I immediately realized that only divine intervention could help me solve the puzzle.

First, I thought that heavenly assistance could come through someone who might already know the answer, but soon I began to doubt that anyone would even know that the contradiction existed. Nevertheless, I decided to choose a person to initiate my investigation. This person was the leader of the Bible study group at the dorm, a man apparently well instructed in affairs concerning the study of the Bible. After I thought it over twice, I cautiously approached him with my query. Truly, he reacted as I had expected. He was in shock, but skillfully managed to hide any emotion. Several seconds passed, while he was mentally speculating upon the answer; then, told me that the story in the second chapter of Genesis was only about the creation of the Garden, and that it was different from the story in the first chapter, which was about the creation of the whole universe, including the earth. I shook my head in disappointment, and responded that God only took six days to create everything and these six days were covered in the first chapter. God did not take an extra week to create the Garden, I concluded. Looking at me with an unfriendly expression, the man warned me that I could get hurt for questioning the scriptures in such a way. As I digested his menacing remark, a sudden cold shiver went down my spine, but my determination to find the truth was stronger than the forces behind my fears. Then, completely convinced that no human could help me to find the answer, I retired to sit a few a tables away.

Back in my reading, I could sense how the man was switching glances between his Bible and my table. Later, I learned from him that any time he needed a response from God, he would pray first and then open the Bible randomly to find the divine answer to his question in whatever scripture first met his sight. That day, after I left his table, he did the same, but the only answer he obtained was that I had been blessed. When he confessed this to me later, I asked him why he was telling me that, and he just answered that I knew why. This was the second person telling me about my blessing, and I wondered how I could have been blessed, sitting in jail among so many criminals, including myself.

That night before I went to sleep, I prayed earnestly to God, asking for the answer. I don’t remember how I fell asleep, but a few hours later, deep in the middle of the night, the answer finally came to me in a vision. I was in a transitional state between a light sleep and the lethargy of waking up. It was dark, and in the quietude of my cell, I discerned a voice and a vision of clouds passing in front of me. I stood up, completely shaking, and peered around, trying to locate the voice. I checked the upper bunk, thinking that maybe somebody had arrived while I was sleeping, but the bed was empty. I was alone. Then, assuming that it was just a dream, I went back to sleep. Incredibly, just a few seconds elapsed, and then the strange voice returned, this time louder. It repeated what it had said before: “TIME”.

The chilly perspiration on my forehead swiftly increased with the beating of my heart, as a cry of despair failed to escape from my anxious lips. Then, that soothing energy reappeared and dissolved my fear. Outstretching my hand, I grabbed the pen that I had left on the floor by my bed and, unconsciously, started taking notes on the pages of the inmate handbook. I couldn’t read what I was writing because of the darkness, yet my hand kept moving, taking down these notes that made no sense to me at the time.

Later, while doing a more profound investigation, I discovered that the vision I had experience on that night was similar to that which Daniel had in the Bible. “And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true; wherefore shut thou up the vision for it shall be for many days” (Daniel 8:26). One of the multiple reasons why I associated this vision with my own was its mention of “the evening and the morning.” This phrase appears in all six days of creation, in the first chapter of Genesis, which was where I found part of the contradiction – the starting point of my quest for an answer. Other similarities were in its complexity and secrecy. Daniel was told to keep it secret: “wherefore shut thou up the vision for it shall be for many days” (v 26). Nor could he understand his vision either: “and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it” (Daniel 8:27).

As I recorded my vision, I scribbled notes as if someone else had dictated them to me. A series of new concepts and ideas unfolded in my brain at such a speed that I could not seriously analyze its content at the moment. It took me several days to grasp and finally accept these new concepts. Imagine how difficult it was for me to assimilate this revelation if Daniel, who used to communicate with God, couldn’t understand his vision either.

I knew that any time a significant breakthrough, such as a scientific discovery or a new doctrine, came along; it always encountered discouraging resistance from society. Thinking about this reality helped me to overcome my own mental opposition. Only then did I accept the message as divine.

Evidently, people are always skeptical when dealing with new approaches that are contrary to that which has been established. Since the creation of humanity, this has been a common characteristic in all major life-changing events. The most representative example is when Jesus and His disciples began to preach the new gospel of salvation. We learned from the Bible how many obstacles they found in their path. Nonetheless, by virtue of their devotion and perseverance, we are able to see the grandeur of Christianity today.

In the notes that I took that night, God revealed to me the true meaning of the contradiction, explaining two things. First, His real nature and identity. Second, He explained exactly how His relation to men and the rest of the universe functions. An important aspect that we need to know before delving into the details is that, even though we have received this revelation only recently, its location in the first book of the Bible clearly indicates that it was purposely placed up front and was not concealed after all.

You might ask yourself, why has God not revealed it until now? The answer is simple. God designed the socio-intellectual evolution of humanity with such coordination that perfectly engages in moment and conditions with the fulfillment of the prophecies written in the Bible. In other words, God reveals these prophecies when people reach the necessary spiritual maturity to understand them. Jesus came to free us from the boundaries of the law, when we were ready to understand how the law functioned and ready to take the next step in the seemingly unreachable (i.e., unreachable by law) road to our salvation.

Obviously, to understand this new phase in our spiritual maturity, we need to be realistic and sincere with ourselves. Nevertheless, there will be many who completely deny this message because they are not among those chosen to understand it, and that will be our mission – to educate them. Teach them what you are about to learn. As it is written, “Ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracle of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat(v13). For everyone that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe (v14). But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:12-14). This message is for the strong!

That night, when God revealed to me the explanation of the paradox in the book of Genesis about Man-animal creation, I learned that this explanation is beyond human understanding because we perceive time as a linear and irreversible process. We consider time as a dynamic factor, moving from past to present, and from present to future. With this paradox, God shows us that, for Him, time is not linear but multidimensional. God can go from past to future, and back from future to past. He can go even from person to person and from life to life, contrary to what we perceive from our human perspective.

Furthermore, the difference between these two events and in this apparent contradiction shows us that even though the most advanced level of our imagination could allow us to believe in the multidimensional character of time with respect to God, paradoxically, for Him, time’s expression only occurs in one eternal dimension as the only tangible perspective of time – the present.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58).
Jesus – as God Himself – in this scripture clearly states His past existence in present tense: “I am.” He also said, “I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending” (Rev. 1:8).

This is why God can be anywhere and with everyone at the same time. People could see the paradox of creation as a chronological error, but the problem falls in our virtual misconception of how time really works, and this happens because our knowledge of time is as limited as our visual perception of it, which is non-existent.

One of the greatest portrayals of this relation between God’s spirit and time can be found in Genesis 6:3: “And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” If we analyze this scripture in detail, we can perceive that this relation is more complex than we initially assumed. Departing from the fact that God can regulate the time, His Spirit strives with humans, which legitimately means that He can control our lifespan or the time that His spirit interacts and lives in us; we can conclude that, if He can do this, He can control time in everything that exists since He is the creator. Carefully considering the implications in this scripture and God’s ability to offer us eternity, infinite life or infinite time as our final reward, we can conclude that time is the natural source of any spiritual condition, and it cannot be separated from either life or God, simply because time is GOD.

I know that, at this point, some of you might think that this is absurd, blasphemous and idolatrous; but I would invite you to analyze these facts. Time is the only dynamic factor – we acknowledge it as dynamic because it generates life – that we can objectively demonstrate was not created by God. If anyone tells you that God created time, as He did with everything else, just ask that person how she or he would call that unstoppable and invisible moment that was passing while God was creating time. Surely, anyone will tell you that God created time while time was running, or that it simply was not running because it was not created yet. Time was not created because time, in its unique and maximum expression, was always God…
