The Paul Garmirian cigar line was started by the passion of Paul Garmirian. He is an accomplished man, beyond his cigar knowledge. He graduated in 1975, earning a PhD cum laude in International Politics. He has lectured on politics and international marketing and he managed his own real estate firm until 1990. In 1990, he published his book Gourmet Guide to Cigars, which is a culmination of his world travels, learning about the world of cigars. The book has been reprinted nine times and was released in Spanish in 1993. With the publication of his book, he was presented with the opportunity to work with Hendrik Kelner, the President of Tobacos Dominicanos and his chief blender, Eladio Diaz, in Santiago, Dominican Republic. The initial release consisted of the traditional Cuban sizes, and they were introduced at Georgetown Tobacco in Washington, D.C. in November 1990. The first Paul Garmirian cigars were released nationwide in Chicago at a cigar dinner on May 1, 1991. To attribute to the success of their cigars is the aging process that is done with their leaves. Some of their tobaccos are allowed to age up to seven years before they are touched. Then, once they are rolled and placed in their boxes, they are allowed to age for a few more years before they are sold.
The Paul Garmirian Gourmet Maduro is espresso brown in color due to the Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. It has a nice weight to it and there are no soft spots. It starts with a smooth and creamy taste. It blends into a mild coffee flavor, with hints of cocoa and mocha. Midway through the smoke there is a mild citrus flavor. This only enhances the coffee flavor and is a nice addition to the blend. The draw is smooth, and the burn is flawless. The ash holds tight throughout the smoke and produces large amounts of creamy smoke.
For the aficionado, the Paul Garmirian Gourmet Maduro will be reminiscent to the 50\’s era Cuban cigar. The newer cigar smoker will enjoy the flavorful range of taste. This would pair well after a hearty meal with coffee and a splash of cognac. Either way, it is a timeless smoke that can be enjoyed and appreciated by anyone that loves cigar smoking.
