Do As I Say: OBEY Clothing Raises the Bar With Their Spring and Summer 2011 Collection
(X25R2348)There is a lot of controversy that surrounds the American clothing label OBEY. The new OBEY Clothing 2011 Spring and Summer collection continue to endorse a “slimmed down” look. Over the past several seasons the clothing company has done a great job of refining and improving their basic but powerfully sophisticated look.
New to the OBEY Clothing line in the Spring/Summer 2011 Collection is a collaborative footwear effort with the Los Angeles based footwear company, Generic Surplus. Generic Surplus compliments OBEY clothing because both brands have done a magnificent job of capturing the style elements of L.A. with chic Scandinavian minimalism.
The relaxed and comfortable designs that characterize the Generic Surplus brand are a perfect compliment to the Spring and Summer 2011 OBEY Clothing collection. Throw these shoes on with a relaxed T-Shirt while rocking the new Wolves Shorts and you have the ideal relaxed summer look.
Women also get to enjoy some new treats from OBEY Clothing with the new Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The women’s clothing features an unmistakable Spring look. One of their newest items in the 2011 collection is an ultra-lightweight wildflower woven t-shirt. The women’s t-shirt is currently only available in a light indigo color. Be on the lookout for more colored versions of OBEY T-shirts in the 2011 Summer.
We continue to see a strong progression in Obey Clothing shifting to cleaner looks and more suave ensembles. However, Spring/Summer 2011 collection continues to produce the graphic orientated hoodies and T-Shirts that made the clothing company famous in the first place.
OBEY Clothing is the fashion initiative of artist Shepard Fairey. Originally his work focused on items such as the Obey hoodie, and graphic t-shirts almost exclusively.
Shepard Fairey’s work has revolved around a strong graphic component with a hip street approach when it came to his Obey Clothing designs, but now we are seeing a transition in the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The brand is starting to implement a more contemporary approach to fashion design.
Their has been a lot of propaganda that has surrounded the Obey Clothing line. Artist Shepard Fairey is the artist who was responsible for the famous Barack Obama “Hope” campaign poster.
Fairey has been accused of appropriation numerous times. In defense of Shepard Fairey, when it comes to his design of the OBEY Hoodie, T-shirts, and other clothing items, I see his graphic work as protected under “The Doctrine of Fair Use”.
Shepard Fairey puts an original twist into his OBEY Clothing design. I am convinced the work he creates should not be subject to appropriation allegations because he makes his designs uniquely his own through his unorthodox approach of product creation.
The Spring/Summer 2011 OBEY Clothing collection is building on its previously enjoyed success of marketing their graphic hoodies and its variations as well as their t-shirts.
OBEY Clothing has built a loyal following of brand enthusiasts. This season introduces some new design elements that are reminiscent of Navajo and Nautical influences but the iconic graphic hoodies and t-shirt are still present with new designs with Shepard Fairey imagery.
Be on the lookout for a retailer in your area to carry the new Spring/Summer 2011 OBEY Clothing Collection.
