Killing Off the Pests Sometimes Takes Some Time

Whenever we see signs of damage around the home, and this could be in very open places or hidden away in cellars or attics, we often just let it ride for a while since we are not sure of what to do next. However, this is a serious mistake since the damage caused to wooden beams etc could be expensive in the future. For those who are unsure of what to look out for, it may be wise to call in the experts who will crawl all over the house in their quest to see what is going on. Look up ‘termite inspections’ or ‘pest control’ online to see which companies offer this kind of service.

It is important to note at this juncture that these animals will never be eradicated completely since they have a nasty habit of popping up again when we least expect it. This is explained by the way that they get from one place to another.

These creatures get wings at the beginning of their lives. They only have them for a few days or so but this is enough for them to fly away from their home nest to start up a colony somewhere else. The colony is ruled over by one queen which is the only female which will lay eggs.

Once she is ensconced in the nest, the workers will build galleries for the eggs and there will be specific workers to take care of them. Much like a nursery, these workers will only take care of the young. Other workers will build galleries in advance of the eggs being laid. Then there are the foragers who will dig tunnels up to a couple of kilometers long in the search for food.

Once the foragers find a good food source, and this is often our homes unfortunately, they lay down scent trails for the other foragers to follow so that they can collect food and take back to the nest and, ultimately, the queen.

Some ways to stop these creatures getting into our homes involves putting up a chemical barrier to encourage them to look elsewhere for the food that the colony needs. Others include laying poisoned bait in the knowledge that the queen will eventually be fed with it. Once she dies, no more eggs will be laid in this colony and it will eventually die out completely.

Because experts are constantly looking for ways to discourage invasions of homes and gardens by these eating machines, they are working on the habits of the creatures to fight them off. Although most people do not like the idea of using gallons of toxic chemicals around the place, this is often the most economic way to put up a barrier. However, there could be some disruption to the garden area and no one likes the idea of this for sure. Buildings which have sidewalks around them have been treated in a different fashion, but this way is usually more expensive than the chemical barrier method.
