Across the world there is a lot of suffering. Some of these are owing to extreme poverty while others are created by man in events like civil war, ethnic violence etc. Federal and local governments don\’t always reach the poor and the needy with their policies and programs. This is where nonprofit charitable organizations become so important to the society. They generate funds through philanthropy and other fund raising events and devote these funds and their money to heal the wounds and give hope to people.

People like Microsoft founder Bill Gates have come forward and started their own nonprofit charitable organizations to give hope to millions of people who are devoid of the basics of life. Throughout the world there are many dedicated nonprofit organizations who are working relentlessly in an effort to bring about change in the lives of people of all age groups and ethnicities. These organizations run awareness campaigns for individuals as well as corporate houses to come forward and fund their causes.

What makes nonprofit charitable organizations so popular is the fact that they are not biased and corrupt with the programs and try to reach the poor and the needy right at the grass root level. Figures have it that in most parts of the world governmental policies fail to make the intended impact among the poor and the underprivileged due to corruption and biases in their implementation. Those in favor of the policy makers usually benefit while the rest are denied any benefits.

In the third world countries the situation is worse as the lack of infrastructure and weighty corruption jeopardizes the policies meant to benefit the poor in projects of health care, education and social development. In all these countries nonprofit charitable organizations have had an encouraging track record. Unlike most of the activities performed by the government machinery these organizations have tried to target the root causes of poverty, health related problems and other social evils. They have created self-help groups to empower people to solve their own problems.

One of the key reasons for the success of the nonprofit charitable organizations has been the kind of accountability they have attached to the funds that they generate for their projects. The donors see each and every cent that they donate be used for the cause of people. These organizations have tried to engage well educated and trained professionals to execute most of their programs. Doctors, teachers and experts on micro finance have worked selflessly not only to solve the problems of the poor and the needy but also to help them raise the social ladder.

Another thing which makes these organizations so important is the fact that unlike government sponsored programs they are not bound by national borders. Most of the problems are common across various regions around the world. They use the experience of running projects in one part of the world for the benefit of projects in another. These organizations generate funds from the affluent parts of the world through philanthropy and run their projects in the third world countries.

Registered nonprofit organizations have the tax exempt status in most countries of the world. Any contribution made to these organizations is exempted from income as well as corporate taxes. In the United States all such organizations are 501(c)(3) exempt. Similarly other countries also offer 100% tax relief on the money donated for such noble cause. This has encouraged many people to come forward and generously donate for the cause of humanity.
