Ways to Control Stink Or Shield Bugs
Nobody likes to have bugs in their house, it does not matter what kind of bugs they are. However, some bugs are worse than others and as you can tell by their name, stink bugs also known as shield bugs are among those that can be a particular nuisance. The moniker shield bug comes from the shape of their outer shell and the stink bug phrase clearly comes from the fact that they have a very strong smell.
As with many other types of pests, the best way to control their population is to prevent them from becoming a problem in the first place. It is much easier to take a little time to put a few preventative steps into place now so that you do not have to deal with the time, money and nuisance later that will be caused if their population grows. These bugs can get into your house through tiny holes in the foundation. They can also get into your house through small openings around your doors and windows. It is important for you to carefully inspect both the interior and exterior of your house looking for any kind of a small opening that will allow bugs of this nature to get into your house.
When you find these openings, they need to be completely sealed of as soon as possible. The nature of the opening you find will determine whether this will be an easy task or a more difficult one. Even if you need to call someone else to help you repair an opening, it will be worth it. This repair will not only keep shield bugs from getting into your house, but it will stop many other kinds of bugs and things from getting in as well.
It can be a little more difficult to control the population of shield bugs in your garden because it is not protected by the structure of your house. Again, prevention is a key to reducing the likelihood that you will have to deal with these bugs. You should do some research before you start planting flowers because some of them naturally attract these kinds of bugs. If you plant those flowers anyway, you are almost guaranteed to have a future problem with the bugs. If your garden is already infested with these bugs, you have several options to try and control or eliminate them. However, there is not one answer that is best. There are many different types of chemicals that can be used, but you have to look closely at them to make sure you are comfortable with the level of pesticides they contain. Other tactics include light chemicals that you can put in other places that will make the bugs want to go to the new location instead of your garden.
One of the things you need to be aware of is that using harsh chemicals and pesticides to completely eliminate these bugs or any other kind can sometimes change the environmental makeup of your garden. It could actually do more harm than good.
