Using Nature Itself Keeps Stink Bugs Under Control

If anyone has ever come across a stink bug in their travels, they will know full well how this insect got its name. Stink bugs are so called because they emit a foul smelling odor from their bodies and this is usually in the mating season. However, the problem with this though is that they may exude this smelly fluid where we are and this will also attract other insects which feed upon them too. Now this means that we have double the trouble!

In the garden, this insect can do some good work since it will also feed on other pests which may be detrimental to our beloved plants. In most cases though, it is their predators which come, attracted by their smell, and feed on our food and flowers.

These are quite secretive creatures and they will also infest areas around the home which are not used very often. Although they will come into the house too if we let them, the entrance points are not that easy. Those who have cracks in the masonry around windows and doors will certainly be advised to get these fixed since this is what these pests look for. To be rid of them in garages and sheds, just give them a spray now and then to keep the population under control.

Clever gardeners who do not want to kill these creatures can actually use this smelly liquid they exude to attract all the population of pests off to another part of the garden or outside the boundary fence. This takes quite a bit of organizing but it does not upset the natural balance of things so this may be just the thing to do. For an even greener treatment to keep these pests away from out plants, there are actually some plants which drive them away. Planting these on the perimeters and in amongst our garden should be enough to push them away but it will also stop the gardener having to spray what could be some rather toxic chemicals around the place. Indeed, anything which stops this practice must be worth a try for sure.

Gardeners should always try for a natural balance when it comes to gardens. Too much of one insect, or too many chemicals, will all upset this balance so finding the happy medium is always the key to success. Indeed, those people who study their pests will find a way to bring success. For example, when we were kids, we were often told not to kill ladybugs because they were protecting their young. However, there was a smidgeon of truth in this in that they were not to be killed because they were actually eating pests which would nibble at all the plants.

Take a look online for sites which give out all kinds of information on how to get this happy medium under way. Since we all love our own space in the garden anyway, we really have no choice but to join with nature to keep the balance.
