Buying Luxury Homes Across the Country
The idea of buying a luxury home is appealing to many. What makes a luxury home these days? Is it the price, the size, the upgrades? Like all things, this is relative to where you are coming from, so back to location, location, location.
If you live in Charlotte, NC, you’re able to capture a luxury home at what would seem a very affordable price to those that are relocating to the area from a major city in New York or California. In contrast, if you were moving here from a little town in Mississippi or Wyoming, Charlotte homes would seem a bit expensive.
Other things that vary from market to market include lot sizes and construction styles. In Charlotte, the homes tend to be on small lots. True, most neighborhoods will include community clubhouses, pools and playgrounds, but the homes themselves are lucky to have a half acre lot. Those moving from certain parts of the country, get squeamish at the tightness of these lots. Some will opt not to move here at all. But there are others who have tired of the yard work and are happy to have a pool in their neighborhood, not one to tend to in their own back yard.
Charlotte luxury homes priced at a million dollars are typically in either country club or gated communities and have a good six thousand square feet. Many are beautifully upgraded both inside and out. People relocating from other areas of the country are also often quite pleased with the lower taxes in the area. Most are surprised to learn that their taxes on a million dollar home in Charlotte are just $10,000 a year, and if you stretch out a bit into nearby towns, the taxes will be even lower, and the homes equally beautiful.
As Charlotte is not a coastal community, it does not have to deal with extreme weather conditions so the building codes are different. If you’re in upstate New York or Chicago, you have to worry about heavy winter snows on your roof, as well as good storage areas for your winter weather supplies.
In Charlotte, you’ll find very few basement homes as the terrain is not conducive to them and (as mentioned earlier) there is no need to store winter tools. Charlotte residents may get all of three snowfalls a year. If you love the snow, you can reach the mountains in less than an hour and a half and have all the snow you want each winter.
If you are coming from Fort Lauderdale or Charleston, you are coming in from the coastal waters where the insurance companies punish you with high premiums just in case of a hurricane. For you relocating coastal residents, you will feel relief on the cost of your insurance and still hit the beach.
As a Charlotte resident, you can reach multiple Carolina beaches in less than three and a half hours. The benefit to the city of Charlotte is this; you can have the mountains or the beach within a few hours. No need to lose the house in a storm or pay a high premium for Mother Nature.
