Since majority of these furniture fixtures endured and survived for decades, for sure, some of them already accumulated dirt, scratches and mud, while some already have dented portions. After which, run a steam iron over the cloth for several times until the damp cloth is dried and the dented area levels, otherwise, repeat the process again.

Before you start your task, be sure to bring the item on your working area to avoid damaging other furniture inside your bedroom. Cover the parts of the furniture which has no damage and secure it with adhesive tape to prevent movement.

Before starting your carpentry job, be sure to wear working gloves and mask because the smell of the chemicals is detrimental to your health. Put chemical stripper on the furniture to remove the old coat of paint. Be sure to let it stay for how many minutes before you scrape it out with putty knife. You will know that the furniture is ready for scrapping once the knife goes through the wood and the paint.

Once you are done removing the old paint, sand it using 150-grits sandpaper to remove the residue, to clean the item and to smooth off its surface.

Finish off the item by sanding it with 200-grit sand paper. You can also use a power sanding tool if you have one to save time and effort.

For finishing touches, apply paint or stain it with your favorite shade of paint using soft paint brush or rug. Finish it off by applying polyurethane. If you noticed coats in between space, sand it off to achieve a smooth look. When you are done with the item, let it dry under normal temperature.

By following the steps and suggestions mentioned above, you can refurbish your old furniture piece at least cost.
