Buick A Respected American Car & Now A Big Auto Seller In China
The auto brand name “Buick” is synonymous with automotive product development and innovation. Indeed the word “motor” has always been part of the Buick name and moniker. Buick originally patented the “overhead valve” type of engine which was head and heels in power and performance over anything else at that time (early 20’Th century the time of auto industry start-ups and pioneers). Fast forward to our time in 2011 where current 2011 new model Buick employ the 3.8 liter V6 engine as their premier flagship power plant. This 3.8 liter V6 is a direct descendant of the Buick “Fireball” engine – the first large V6 in production in American cars. The Buick “Fireball” made its debut on the motoring scene with the 1962 model year “Buick Special”. Buick has a great and well earned historical record in the auto industry of innovation and product quality.
The first line of Buick cars referred to as Model B were made in 1904 and were produced by David Dunbar. From then on the company has developed together with the modern times and created more innovative vehicles from crossovers to luxury sedans. The headquarters if the company was originally situated in Flint, Michigan where the first model — the Model B was made. However, the company moved to Detroit in the later years. The brand has gained popularity and was not only sold in the US but also in other foreign countries including Israel, Canada and China.
Sadly, no Model B of Buick Cars was able to live up to this day although there fortunately a number of high quality replicas that have been made and were placed in museums for display. The first models of Buick cars are made with 1904 engines but in 1907, Model D which has four-cylinder engine was released. It was during this time that Buick became a part of General Motors.
As years pass by, the Buick’s designs are becoming more updated and innovative attracting upper class in 1900s. It was known as the doctors’ car because it was the kind of car that often owned by professionals. Eventually, they became the first company to mass produce vehicles with four wheel brakes entitling them with wider interest of consumers.
The company prospered in 1950s however when the war took place they had to convert into designing engines of government military airplanes and tank destroyers. The company began producing cars again in 1942, but due to the financial crises after the war, it is easy to determine that they need to make couple of changes. The company was popular because of their large cars which are truly inefficient when it comes to fuel consumption and since the prices of fuel are rapidly increasing, consumers were into vehicles which are more cost efficient.
The crises made Buick do some necessary changes in their vehicles. They downsized their cars and started to pay more attention into creating vehicles that are smaller and more fuel efficient. Despite the economic crisis that time, the company was able to pull through and maintain their brand reputation strong. During the time of the small recession, all automakers were affected and this was no small feat. The success of the company was renewed in 1960s.
