Women want men who act like men.

They don’t want to date a man who acts like a woman. And yet, even though we know this, so many men still mistakenly think that women want someone they can confide in and talk to for hours on end about this and that.

That’s what a woman’s close girlfriends are for.

Even if a woman claims to want a “nice guy” to date, she still wants a man with a little bit of ego and cockiness. That’s why sometimes it seems as if nice guys end up last.

Men who strive too hard to be “nice guys” are essentially putting someone else above themselves. They put another person’s needs above their own. Sure, this is fine if you are married, but until then, put your needs first.

When you don’t, you appear needy and wimpy and that is a turn off.

If you want to be a “nice guy” then think about what that means.

It doesn’t mean this:

– Going against your own desires and wishes for someone else.
– Being afraid to express your own opinion in case it differs with that of someone else or it might be construed as offensive.
– Paying for everything on a date every time.
– Allowing the girl to make all the decisions about what you do and where you go.
– Sacrificing your time, energy and money exclusively for someone else.
– Bending your own values and morals to please others.

But it does mean this:

– Always acting with honor and integrity, which entails being honest.
– Expressing differing opinions in a respectful manner and acknowledging and respecting differences in others.
– Sometimes treating your date to a night out and other times going Dutch or finding inexpensive free things to do to let her know you aren’t an ATM.
– Taking charge and making decisions after you have input on desires and wishes from your girl and taking her wishes into account as you make these choices.
– Putting your own self-esteem first by creating boundaries and having expectations that others must live up to when it comes to respectful behavior toward you.
– Standing firm in what you believe, even if it leaves you standing alone.

If you are able to keep all the good aspects of the “nice guy” and ditch all the unattractive characteristics we tend to associate with nice guys, then you have found the golden middle ground that all women are looking for in a man.

Women want a man who is self-confident and not afraid to express his opinion. They want a man who can take charge, but who also considers the woman’s desires and wishes. They respect a man who isn’t afraid to have a different perspective then they do. They are attracted to a man who likes himself enough to set boundaries and who lets them know right away he won’t put up with any disrespectful shenanigans.

It’s all about taking care of yourself and not being afraid to let people know you are a nice guy, but you won’t put up with anything less than respectful behavior.
