Terminate Termites Where They Live
The termite has been known to trouble quite a few residents. These glucose-consuming pests would not think twice before they devour the entire wooden support structure of a home – if given the opportunity. A termite would love nothing more than to destroy your home, even if you would love nothing more than to ensure that it does not succeed. Termite treatments have come quite a long way in recent years so much so that these pests should not trouble the modern homeowner much, as long any problems are detected early on. But there are many control methods on the market, and the trick to nipping a colony in the bud is to select an effective one. Control is an important part of putting an end to the infestation, in addition to treating the problem that already exists.
Homeowners should understand that one colony can be home to hundreds of thousands or even millions of these wood-consuming pests. In a few months, one colony can cause lasting and costly damage to a home’s interior structure. While they reside within a home, termites never cease consuming whatever food they can find, and they continue to reproduce all the while. If you have an infestation, it is important to treat the entire home, but it is doubly important to attack the colony itself. Another important part of treating a home is having annual inspections, these will help ensure that a colony is identified and stopped before it has done too much damage.
One way that homeowners attempt to prevent an infestation is to use barriers of poison, but if a colony is already in place than this preemptive strike would not do much to help the situation. The type of treatment used will depend upon many factors concerning the colony such as how big it has become, where it is and what kind of species is living inside it. It is very wise to consult a professional in this manner, as an experienced termite inspector will be able to access the situation and determine what mode of extermination would work best.
Colony control methods include baits and chemical treatments. Baits are meant to entice termites, who feed upon the poisoned food and take it back with them to feed the rest of the colony. Chemical treatments are left near the colony to kill off its members. A pest control company will likely offer the use of baits, which can be installed in the backyard quite easily. These are an effective method of taking down a colony, though they may take some time to take effect as the pests must first return to the colony with the poisoned food. If there are so many of them that they have become an imminent threat to your home, then you will likely have to find the location of the colony in order to treat it with chemicals.
If you suspect you have a termite problem, it is important not to put off calling in a professional. These pests can do serious damage to the structure of your home, and the longer you wait the more it may cost you.
