4 Things You Should Know to Keep Your Kids Healthy
When you help your kids incorporate healthy habits into their life, it helps them in retaining these healthy habits for lifetime. Kids look up to their parents, and it is your responsibility to help them learn to choose healthy lifestyle habits. Here are 4 things that you should teach them for a healthy lifestyle.
1. Give Them Lots of Fruits and Vegetables
One of the most nutritious and healthiest foods your kids can eat is fruits and vegetables.
– When your kid takes a minimum of 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables in a day, he/she would be getting sufficient amount of all the essential nutrients.
– Most of the fruits and vegetables are rich in water, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
– Keep the fruits chopped and convenient for your kids to eat as snacks. This will increase their consumption of fruits. Make sure that you serve them a minimum of one fresh fruit and vegetable with each meal.
2. Keep Them Active
Kids require at least one hour of physical activity in a day so as to remain healthy and develop muscles and build strong immunity.
– Kids who engage in more exercises are likely to get better sleep and are able to learn new things.
– You can increase their physical activity by signing them up for gymnastics, dance or sports classes.
– You can take your kid to a park, a soccer game, to a walk, or for playing in the playground.
– They can jump rope, ride bike or play hopscotch.
3. Limit Their Television Time
If your kid spends a lot of time watching television, then he/she is missing more than an hour of essential exercise required to keep him/her healthy.
– According to medical experts, your kid should not be watching television for more than 2 hours.
– Similar to watching television, working on computer and playing video games also counts towards screen time.
– Offer other activities to your child so as to keep him/her active and busy.
– You can take them along to work in the garden, or go to the park, or play some games, doing some puzzles or reading some books along with the family.
4. Proper Brushing
Teach your child the value of maintaining a healthy oral hygiene. This will help them to maintain healthy teeth and gums, preventing any cavities or bad health.
– Brushing and flossing are two essential ways of protecting the smile of your child.
– Your kid should brush at least two times in a day, and floss at least once.
– Monitor him/her when he/she is brushing.
– Make sure that your child sees a pediatric dentist once in six months so as to detect any oral issues in time.
In addition to all these tips for keeping your child healthy make sure that your kids do not depend on sugary drinks. This includes avoiding sodas, energy drinks, sweetened teas, sports drinks, coffee drinks and even juices that are not 100% fruit made. If your kid is aged between 2 and 18, then skimmed or 1% milk and water is the best beverage for him/her.
