Each one is going to fail or pass. Most likely you will have more fails than passes which is why more is better. If you want to build a cage of some sort you absolutely can… I just wouldn’t. You have to main “trapping” options for snares. You can either build a dead fall trap, which would allow the animal to step on a loop, which would tug at a tree branch or a rock/rope contraption and catch the prey. Or, you can use the old stone, wood, and treat trap. Either is good. The dead fall trap works on the principle that when the bait is taken a weight falls on the prey.

This live animal trap can be made to any size. Warning! It can be dangerous for humans. Setting a large version of this trap is risky and difficult to do on your own. An often-shown trap is the figure-four trap. It’s very effective, but it needs some practice to make. You are unlikely to get it right first time. Your intention should be to create a stable trap, but with a trigger that will cause the trap to collapse, even to the slightest touch. As a weight, use a heavy log or rock. Another variation is to use the trigger mechanism. This involves a piece of “bait”, two long sticks and weight of some sort. Slate is a good option, but sometimes it can crumble. On the other hand, the snare is a very simple method. Using snares to trap small animals is a simple method. Make sure the noose is large enough to pass freely over the animal’s head. Set it at a height that’s equal to the height of the animals head and a hand’s width from an obstruction.
