Some of the cheaper makes of covers can leave scratch marks on your paint and windows so ensure it is made of polypropylene material, which is both soft and durable. The best in the market are made from three ply protex which also protects against harmful UV light.

Some brands even offer additional protection for your windows as a belts and braces approach. So ask if they the cover comes with extra material specifically for your windows. How much you spend will determine how well your cover it, it’s one of those get what you pay for situations.

It would need to be completely waterproof, right? No. The covers should be made from a breathable material so you don’t have a damp problem which can lead to mildew and stain your paintwork. A high quality breathable cover will allow any condensation to evaporate quickly.

Always check the warranty on any cover you offer, which will give you piece of mind and guarantee your purchase.

Fittings

Look for a quality cover that also has features such as straps and elasticised hems that will secure the cover to the underside of your caravan. An ill-fitting cover is often as bad as having no cover at all.

There are lots of manufacturers who will make a tailor made cover to suit the model of your caravan. They will also add in any extra features, such as a zip panel for your external battery door or so you can open the front or side lockers.

Generally speaking, a cover with a door zip is highly recommended so you can get in and out of your caravan without having to remove the cover – straps, hems and all!

Size

Make sure you take the correct measurements when placing an order by measuring the length of the body, which doesn’t including the hitch, the height and the width.

Unless you’re going for a tailor made cover, the sizes will be categorized in ranges which should make it easy to know which is the best fit. Most covers these days have padded or plastic protection for corners.

And a final tip, remember to remove any objects from outside your caravan that could be broken or possibly tear the cover, such as aerials or cables.
